IWhat a pleasure to escape to New York City (my favourite musical stomping ground) for a couple of hours last night courtesy of Moonglow Jazz Ensemble at Kinki. Without even leaving the Byward Market, I was transported all over the Big Apple via a variety of very cool jazz and funk grooves and spoken history.

The June 9 jam [...] had the same easy vibe to it, right from the beginning. The host band had a laid-back feeling, typified by Hélène’s singing, which has a kind of Bebel Gilberto quality to it.
An impressive thing about this group [...] is the amount of attention paid to repertoire. It used to be that bands would come in, play Summertime, Route 66, Blue Bossa and all the other greatest hits. But lately I’ve noticed a real attempt to come up with lesser-heard material. The band Sunday played something by Henri Salvador, the name of which escapes me, but was gorgeous. (note from Hélène: the song is Jardin d'hiver).

The event was a huge success and your soothing Brazilian bossa nova tunes were the perfect introduction to the evening. You created a sophisticated ambiance that our dinner guests truly enjoyed - many of them commented on how talented you all are and how lovely your performance was.
